The Gujarat chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has appealed to Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran to provide compensation to medical students who were killed or injured in the recent Air India plane crash. The request follows Air India’s announcement to offer ₹1 crore compensation to the families of deceased passengers aboard the ill-fated Boeing Dreamliner, as well as its commitment to renovate the BJMC college hostel.

In a letter addressed to the Tata Group chairman, IMA Gujarat welcomed Air India’s support for the crash victims but emphasized the need to also recognize and assist the medical students affected by the tragedy.

“These students were not just bystanders but victims too. As future healthcare professionals, they played a vital role in society, and their families deserve the same compassion and financial help extended to other victims,” the letter read. It was signed by IMA Gujarat president Dr Mehul Shah and other senior members of the association.
