AIG Hospitals Joins India’s Premier Proton Therapy Centres with South-East Asia’s First Proteus ONE System

Hyderabad-based AIG Hospitals has announced an investment of Rs 800 crore to introduce a state-of-the-art Proton Therapy System for cancer treatment. The hospital has signed an agreement with IBA, a Belgium-based leader in proton therapy equipment and services, to acquire the advanced Proteus ONE Proton Therapy System, featuring Dynamic ARC technology. This marks a significant advancement in radiation therapy and will be the first installation of its kind in South-East Asia.

“This strategic acquisition underscores AIG Hospitals’ dedication to providing the most advanced, effective, and accessible cancer care to patients in India,” the hospital stated. With this development, AIG Hospitals will become the third Proton Therapy Centre in India and the first in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Several leading hospitals in India offer Proton Therapy, including Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (Chennai), HCG Cancer Centre (Bangalore), Max Healthcare (Saket, Delhi), Manipal Hospital (Bangalore), Max Hospital (Delhi), BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital (New Delhi), Medanta The Medicity (Gurugram), Fortis Memorial Research Institute (Gurugram),and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (Mumbai).

Proton Beam Therapy is a cutting-edge radiation therapy technique that delivers high precision in targeting tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues. The hospital emphasized that this technology is particularly beneficial for treating complex cancers, especially in children and adults with tumors located near critical organs.

Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, described the acquisition of the Proton Beam Therapy System and the collaboration with IBA as a transformative step in enhancing cancer care. He further revealed that the Proteus ONE Proton Therapy System will be incorporated into a new 300-bed dedicated Oncology Centre currently under construction plans to start treating patients in early 2028 at the hospital’s Gachibowli campus. This centre aims to provide world-class comprehensive cancer care, aligning with the best medical facilities globally.
