AIIMS Joins Hands with BFI to study Urinary Tract Infections

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Blockchain For Impact (BFI) to delve into the genetic and epigenetic factors associated with recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTIs). This collaboration aims to identify potential biomarkers for rUTIs, which are a significant public health concern due to their impact on patients’ quality of life and the associated healthcare costs.

According to an official release, this initiative is part of a project supported by the BFI-BIOME Medical INI Grant Program. The program focuses on fostering groundbreaking research to address complex medical challenges. Speaking about the partnership, Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS Delhi, remarked, The BFI-BIOME Medical INI Grant Program empowers our researchers and faculty to explore new horizons in medical science, paving the way for transformative contributions to global healthcare.

Dr. Gaurav Singh, CEO of BFI, highlighted the broader implications of the collaboration, stating, This partnership accelerates advancements in Indian biomedical research and strengthens the healthcare ecosystem. Through the SAMARTH grant, we aim to enhance biomedical research capabilities and improve patient care across the country.

The project, spearheaded by Dr. Sarita Mohapatra, Additional Professor in the Department of Microbiology at AIIMS Delhi, is funded under the BFI-BIOME initiative. This initiative supports premier medical institutes of national importance by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and driving innovation. The Blockchain For Impact Biomedical Virtual Network (BFI-BIOME) serves as a platform for advancing upstream and deep science research, furthering the mission to strengthen biomedical research in India.
