Tiruchi: Apollo Hospitals in Tiruchi has introduced Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Research, and Technique (SMART), a specialised facility dedicated to the treatment of sports injuries. This centre offers specialised services in arthroscopy and sports medicine, focusing on minimally invasive procedures for joint issues, particularly in the knee and shoulder.
The launch event held on 8 December featured a conference focused on the fundamentals of sports medicine, with senior consultants Dr. K. Balakrishnan (Orthopaedics and Spine Surgery), Dr. Arun Geethayan (Orthopaedics, Trauma, and Joint Replacement Surgery), and Dr. S. Udayamoorthy (Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Orthopaedic Surgery) in attendance.
Arthroscopy, a minimally invasive surgical procedure, is a key offering at the facility. It enables faster recovery and minimises scarring, revolutionising joint injury treatments. “Arthroscopy has transformed the management of joint injuries, providing patients with quicker and more efficient recoveries,” said Dr. Udayamoorthy. The hospital provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to support patients’ recovery and facilitate a safe return to their athletic activities.
