Just days after signing a MoU with the central government, the Delhi Health Department has instructed more than 100 hospitals to begin implementing the Ayushman Bharat scheme without delay, according to official sources. Authorities confirmed that contract letters have already been dispatched to around 110 hospitals, urging them to quickly formalize agreements with the Delhi government. As per media reports an advisory has been issued for the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana and contract documents have been shared with the identified hospitals.
Delhi became the 35th state or Union Territory to adopt the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) after the BJP-led state government signed the MoU on April 5. The health insurance programme offers free and cashless treatment for nearly 2,000 medical procedures across 27 specialties. Covered services include medicines, diagnostics, surgeries, ICU care, hospital stays, and more.
Eligible families in Delhi will now benefit from an annual health coverage of ₹10 lakh—₹5 lakh provided by the Centre and an additional ₹5 lakh contributed by the Delhi government.
The decision to implement the scheme was one of the first major moves by the government in Delhi, which took office in February after 26 years. The approval was granted in the very first cabinet meeting held on February 20, following the swearing-in of Chief Minister Gupta and six of her ministers.
