The Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), in partnership with the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, and the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hajipur, has launched a study aimed at developing a treatment for liver cancer. The Indian Council of Medical Research has allocated approximately ₹1 crore to support this initiative.
According to Rizwanul Haque, Dean of Environmental Sciences at CUSB and the study’s principal investigator, the project focuses on developing Designer T-cells from stem cells to combat liver cancer, which is highly prevalent in Bihar and other regions of India.
The research team includes Krishna Prakash (CUSB), Margoob Ahmad and Rakesh Kumar Singh (IGIMS), and Murali Kumarasamy (NIPER). Haque explained that the study aims to generate novel Designer T-cells from induced pluripotent stem cells and assess their effectiveness against liver cancer.
This research could open new avenues for innovative cancer treatment and enhance existing immunotherapy approaches for solid tumors. If successful, the study will contribute to global cancer treatment strategies and provide a breakthrough in liver cancer therapy.
