Delhi’s former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in the lead-up to the 2025 Assembly elections, has announced the Sanjeevani Yojana, a healthcare initiative aimed at providing free medical treatment to all senior citizens aged 60 and above residing in the city. This program, unveiled by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, promises cost-free medical care for senior citizens at both government and private hospitals, irrespective of their financial background or the cost of treatment.

Unlike the central government’s Ayushmann Bharat Yojana, the Sanjeevani Yojana is uniquely tailored for Delhi’s residents and operates outside the national scheme. The initiative is set to roll out only if the AAP retains power in the 2025 elections. As part of the scheme, all senior citizens who are permanent residents of Delhi and possess valid proof of residency, such as a voter ID or Aadhaar card, will be eligible for enrollment.

Key features of the scheme include:

  • Free medical treatment for senior citizens aged 60 and above in both public and private hospitals.
  • Full coverage of medical expenses by the Delhi government.
  • Eligibility limited to permanent residents of Delhi with appropriate documentation.

AAP has announced plans to conduct door-to-door enrollment for the program in the coming weeks. Kejriwal emphasized that this initiative is a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility for the elderly in Delhi. However, the implementation of the Sanjeevani Yojana hinges on the outcome of the upcoming elections.

This program highlights AAP’s focus on healthcare as a key agenda item in their election campaign for the 70-member Delhi Assembly.
