The Delhi government has allocated ₹6,874 crore for the health sector in its 2025-26 Budget, focusing on expanding healthcare infrastructure, improving critical care services, and increasing accessibility. While presenting the Budget on 25th of March, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the administration’s commitment to modernising the healthcare system, strengthening primary care, and streamlining medical records.
The overall Budget stands at ₹1 lakh crore, marking a 31.5% increase from the previous year. Of this, ₹320 crore has been set aside for establishing 400 health and wellness centres, including “Ayushman Arogya Mandirs,” aimed at enhancing primary healthcare services. Additionally, ₹10 crore has been allocated for the Ayushman Digital Mission to create an integrated healthcare data system for better patient management.
Comparing the current allocation to the previous year’s ₹8,685 crore under the AAP-led government, Gupta criticised her predecessor’s administration for failing to provide basic healthcare facilities. She pointed out that 24 projects initiated earlier had little impact and stressed the new government’s goal of making healthcare more efficient and accessible.
As part of its broader healthcare reforms, the government has also prioritised the rapid construction of 10 to 13 new hospitals, with ₹1,000 crore allocated for this initiative. Gupta reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to building a modern and efficient healthcare system for Delhi.
This Budget marks a significant shift in healthcare policy under the BJP-led government, the first to present a Budget in Delhi in over 26 years after defeating the Aam Aadmi Party in the recent Assembly elections.
