Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh announced on 6th of March that the registration process for the Ayushman Bharat scheme will commence after March 8, marking a crucial step in expanding healthcare access across the national capital.Addressing a press conference, Singh revealed that the Delhi government is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre to facilitate the scheme’s implementation. He assured that visible improvements in the city’s healthcare system would be evident within 100 days.
The minister stressed the importance of strict monitoring of hospital bed allotments and the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota, appointing two nodal officers to ensure transparency. He also pledged that no government hospital in Delhi would face a shortage of medicines. Criticizing the previous AAP-led administration, Singh alleged that nearly 250 mohalla clinics existed only on paper, with funds misused in rent payments. “To curb corruption, an order has been issued to shut down such clinics,” he stated.
Singh also pointed out that approximately 20% of childbirths in Delhi take place outside hospitals, a figure the government aims to reduce by promoting institutional deliveries. Additionally, he announced the deployment of mobile dental vans in the city’s outskirts to provide essential healthcare services to underserved communities.
“Anyone found guilty of malpractice will not be spared,” the minister warned, reaffirming his commitment to transforming Delhi’s healthcare system.
