The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has nominated Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), to the Board of Trustees of the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF).
IBEF, a trust under the Department of Commerce, works to promote Brand India globally by highlighting the country’s strengths as a reliable business partner, investment destination, and provider of quality products and services. Dr Sharma’s inclusion on the Board reflects the government’s emphasis on enhancing India’s profile in the medical technologies sector.
Acknowledging the nomination, Dr Sharma said he was honoured to join the Board and expressed his appreciation to Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. He added that India’s medical devices industry holds significant potential for innovation, exports, and job creation, and expressed his commitment to contributing to IBEF’s efforts to strengthen Brand India in healthcare and technology markets.
Industry representatives also welcomed the decision. Rajeev Nath, Forum Coordinator of the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD), remarked that Dr Sharma’s appointment would support ongoing initiatives to promote India’s medical devices sector internationally and build on the work undertaken by IBEF and EEPC at global forums such as Arab Health.
According to sector experts, the nomination is expected to further cooperation between IBEF, policymakers, and industry stakeholders in advancing India’s role in global medical technology and trade.er strengthening India’s profile in global healthcare innovation and trade.
