Dr Sanjay Kumar, a distinguished Neuro and Spine Surgeon with over 30 years of experience, has been elected as the President of the Neuro Science Association of Eastern India. He is also the Managing Director of Curesta Hospital in Ranchi. Dr. Kumar has earned a reputation for his expertise in micro neurosurgery and minimally invasive spinal surgery.
Having previously served as the association’s secretary for many years, Dr. Kumar now assumes the role of president, which allows him to take on new challenges and contribute to the association’s continued growth and influence.
Dr Sanjay Kumar’s academic journey began at Patna Medical College, where he completed his MBBS, followed by an MS in General Surgery from Pt JNM Medical College, Raipur. He later pursued an MCh in Neurosurgery at Grant Medical College & Sir J.J. Hospital in Mumbai, further shaping his career.
He started his professional journey as a Lecturer in Neurosurgery at Grant Medical College & Sir J.J. Hospital before gaining significant experience at Bombay Hospital in Mumbai. In 2004, he established the Department of Neurosurgery at ARAM Memorial Weavers Hospital in Irba, Ranchi, as part of his efforts to bring specialized neurosurgical care to rural India. This led to the creation of an operation theatre and Neuro ICU, a milestone for rural healthcare.
Dr Sanjay Kumar later founded the Institute of Neurosciences at Bhagwan Mahavir MEDICA Superspeciality Hospital in Ranchi in 2014, where he served as Medical Director and Vice Chairman. His leadership elevated the institution’s standards in neuro care. In 2022, Dr. Kumar joined Paras HEC Hospital, Ranchi, as Medical Director, playing a crucial role in enhancing the hospital’s specialized services.
Currently, Dr. Kumar serves as Vice Chairman of Neurosurgery at the Institute of Neurosciences and contributes to the Curesta Group of Hospitals, where he continues to push for excellence in neurosurgical patient care.
His areas of expertise cover a wide range of neurosurgical procedures, including treatments for head and spinal injuries, brain hemorrhages, congenital conditions, brain and spine tumors, skull-base surgeries, pediatric neurosurgery, stereotactic brain surgery, and stroke management. His comprehensive approach to neurocritical care ensures optimal outcomes for patients.
