Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean (Dental Core Training)

HIEW(Health Education and Improvement Wales ) is excited to announce two pivotal opportunities within our organization: Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean (Dental Core Training) and NHS Medical & Dental: GP Educator. These roles are crucial in shaping the future of healthcare education and training, and we are seeking exceptional candidates to fill these positions.

We are actively seeking a highly qualified individual to join HEIW as the Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean for Dental Core Training. This prestigious role is central to our mission of advancing dental education and enhancing the quality of dental care across Wales. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and overseeing the development and delivery of our Dental Core Training programs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The post holder at HIEW will:

  • Have a key role in the quality management of Dental Core Training across Wales, working collaboratively with Training Programme Directors, other regional and national colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Consider local and organisational needs and policy direction, as well as national guidance in the context of dental training programmes.
  • Be expected to deliver on strategic aims for Dental Core Training and early/ middle years training
  • Be a key member of the Dental Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the broader strategic direction of the Dental Deanery within the Medical Directorate in HEIW.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) as a dentist
  • A higher diploma/degree in medical/dental education
  • Outstanding professional record, both clinically and in education and training
  • At least five years’ experience as a NHS Consultant/General Dental Practitioner
  • Registered as a specialist with the GDC
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the processes and future plans for the development of dental education and training locally and nationally.
  • Membership / Fellowship of a Royal College in the United Kingdom.
Essential criteria
  • Flexible approach to work to meet the needs of business
  • Ability to travel as necessary to fulfil the role

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A combination of experience/knowledge of all avenues of dentistry including delivering dentistry in hospital and primary care sectors
  • A good academic record with evidence of involvement in the delivery and management of dental education and training
  • Understanding of assessment and workplace teaching in a postgraduate setting
  • Previous experience in a formal educational role e.g. Dental Training Programme Director /College Tutor/Dental Tutor and/or other relevant educational roles
  • Knowledge of the structure and working of the NHS dental services in Wales, and experience of interpreting local and national policies
Desirable criteria
  • Regional or national experience of committee work relating to postgraduate dental education
  • Organisation of Postgraduate Dental Education and Training in the UK
  • Experience in managing dental specialty, dental core and/or dental foundation training programmes
  • Evidence and involvement in adult dental postgraduate education
