ICMR DECLARES MDRF AS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR DIABETES

The Indian Council of Medical Research (icmr) has recognized the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) as a Collaborating Centre of Excellence. This recognition underscores MDRF’s pivotal role in advancing diabetes research, prevention, and management in India.

Founded in 1996 by Dr. V. Mohan and Dr. Rema Mohan, MDRF has been at the forefront of groundbreaking studies on diabetes and its complications. Its efforts span diverse areas, including early detection, epidemiology, lifestyle interventions, and genetic research. This collaboration with ICMR highlights the foundation’s contribution to addressing the rising diabetes burden in India, which is home to over 74 million people living with the condition.

As a Collaborating Centre of Excellence, MDRF will focus on innovative research initiatives and capacity building. The designation will facilitate greater integration of MDRF’s findings into national health programs, ensuring wider impact on public health policies and diabetes care strategies.
