A concerning rise in heart attack cases has been observed in the Mela area, with over 300 patients admitted to hospitals in just 22 days. The Central Hospital in Sector 2 alone treated 350 patients, out of which more than 200 were heart attack cases. Many others were admitted to the ICUs of sub-central hospitals in Sectors 20 and 24 in Maha Kumbh.
Neglect of Medication Poses a Risk
During counseling sessions, doctors found that 80% of the admitted patients were already suffering from heart conditions but were not following their prescribed medication regimen at the Mela. Many even forgot to bring their blood pressure and diabetes medicines from home.
Initially, most cases involved patients aged 35 to 50, but now people over 50 form the majority of admissions. The severity of cases is also increasing, with eight out of every ten patients arriving in critical condition.
Between February 1 and 4, 57 patients were admitted to the ICU of the Central Hospital, of whom 42 were heart attack cases, all aged over 50.
Doctors Urge Pilgrims to Be Cautious
Medical experts are advising pilgrims to monitor their blood pressure and diabetes levels regularly and continue taking their prescribed medications. Those with heart conditions should stay in touch with doctors and avoid neglecting their health while participating in religious activities.
