Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals, a leading provider of eye care services, has launched its 48th facility in Tamil Nadu, with plans to expand to nearly 100 hospitals nationwide by 2025, a top official said on December 13, 2024.
The new hospital in Kumbakonam, developed under the “Project Velicham” initiative in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government, spans 7,000 square feet. It features two operation theatres, six consultation rooms, and specialized clinics for diabetic retinopathy, cornea, glaucoma, dry eye, pediatric eye care, and more.
Tamil Nadu’s Minister for School Education, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, officially inaugurated the facility on December 13, 2024, joined by Kumbakonam MLA G Anbalagan, Maxivision Group CEO VS Sudheer, and other dignitaries.

Dr. Velu further emphasized the group’s ambitious growth strategy, aiming to approach 100 hospitals nationwide by 2025 to address the increasing demand for quality eye care services.
The Kumbakonam center will be staffed with two experienced full-time surgeons specializing in cataract and other advanced surgeries. Additionally, visiting specialists, including Dr. Shibu Varkey, Dr. Roche Arokiaraj, and Dr. Nalitha Mathuram, will conduct weekly super speciality clinics to ensure comprehensive care.
V.S. Sudheer stated, “Over the next six months, we aim to establish vision centers in remote rural areas of Tamil Nadu, including locations such as Mayiladuthurai, Manapparai, and Pudukottai. The Kumbakonam facility represents a significant step forward in our commitment to enhancing lives through high-quality eye care services in Tamil Nadu.”
