The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced that all Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) must obtain an Eligibility Certificate to appear for the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE). In a notice issued on August 26, 2025, the NMC’s Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) laid out the application timeline and key instructions.
According to the notification, online applications will open on September 1, 2025 (10:00 AM) and close on September 30, 2025 (6:00 PM). The certificate is mandatory for registering for the FMGE, which is expected to be conducted in the coming months by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).
The Commission clarified that candidates who have already received an eligibility certificate need not apply again. Applicants will be able to track the status of their submissions using the File Tracking Number generated during the process. The NMC emphasized that queries made without this number will not receive any response.
To minimize mistakes and delays in the application process, the EMRB also issued an advisory highlighting common errors observed in the past. Candidates have been urged to:
- Fill the form themselves rather than relying on a proxy.
- Keep all original documents handy and cross-check entries with them before submission.
- Provide an active mobile number to ensure they receive deficiency alerts directly and rectify issues promptly.
- Carefully verify all entries to ensure accuracy and speed up approval if eligible.
The advisory added that only the specific deficiencies flagged by NMC should be corrected quickly to avoid last-minute hurdles. It further stressed that mobile numbers provided during registration must remain active throughout the process.
The above measures are only indicative. Applicants are advised to exercise full diligence while applying, the Commission stated, reiterating that no candidate will be allowed to appear in the FMGE without the Eligibility Certificate.
