P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre has inaugurated a specialized Sleep Clinic to tackle the rising incidence of sleep disorders and their far-reaching effects on health and well-being. The clinic is designed to help patients identify, manage, and overcome sleep-related challenges through a combination of medical and psychological care.
Offering detailed assessments and personalized treatment plans, the clinic will be led by Dr. Lancelot Pinto, Consultant Pulmonologist, Epidemiologist, and Sleep Expert, along with Sheena Sood, Psychologist and Counsellor.
Sleep plays a crucial role in maintaining both physical and mental health, yet millions continue to struggle with poor sleep, chronic insomnia, and sleep apnea conditions that severely affect quality of life and elevate health risks. A study published in the Indian Journal of Sleep Medicine, co-authored by Dr. Pinto, surveyed 758 people across Mumbai and found that only 18.3% of respondents got more than seven hours of sleep per night. Over 50% reported poor sleep quality, while 30% experienced significant daytime drowsiness highlighting the urgent need for specialised sleep management.
Gautam Khanna, CEO of P. D. Hinduja Hospital & MRC, emphasized, “Quality sleep is not a luxury it’s essential for public health. Our Sleep Clinic represents our commitment to preventive and holistic care. By combining clinical expertise with psychological counseling, we aim to help patients not only treat sleep issues but also regain their overall well-being. This initiative strengthens our goal of delivering 360-degree care that addresses all aspects of health.”
Unlike conventional approaches that only treat symptoms, the Sleep Clinic focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of sleep disturbances. It integrates medical evaluations with psychological therapy to enhance sleep quality and overall wellness. The clinic will assist patients dealing with chronic insomnia, fatigue, loud snoring, and difficulties adapting to CPAP therapy.
Dr. Pinto added, “Sleep disorders often go unnoticed but can have serious effects on both physical and emotional health. With today’s fast-paced lifestyle, these problems are increasingly common. Our new Sleep Clinic aims to provide comprehensive solutions to help individuals understand and overcome their sleep difficulties.”
Through this initiative, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre continues to strengthen its focus on holistic, preventive healthcare acknowledging sleep as a fundamental pillar of good health and helping individuals rediscover the restorative power of restful sleep for a healthier mind and body.
