After the angioplasty-related deaths at Ahmedabad’s Khyati Multispecialty Hospital, the Gujarat government has made it mandatory for PM-JAY-empaneled hospitals to seek prior approval from the health department before conducting medical camps. A health officer must also be present at these camps.
Investigations revealed that many of the 19 patients admitted after a camp in Borisana did not require angioplasty, and consent from families was not taken. In response, the government revoked Khyati Hospital’s PM-JAY empanelment and stopped a payment of ₹3.17 crore.
State Health Minister Rushikesh Patel stated that action had already been taken against 52 hospitals and three doctors for irregularities. He also confirmed that the number of angioplasty procedures has not declined post-incident, assuring that public trust in PM-JAY remains intact.
