PM Modi Encourages Investment in Health Tourism, Expands Telemedicine to All PHCs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged industries to invest in medical tourism, highlighting its vast potential beyond hotels and transportation. Speaking at a post-Budget webinar on 5th of March, he emphasized that tourism extends to various sectors, including healthcare, yoga, and wellness tourism. He called on stakeholders in the health sector to actively promote medical tourism and explore opportunities in education tourism, suggesting a structured approach to maximize its benefits.

PM Modi also announced the expansion of telemedicine services to all Primary Health Centres (PHCs), reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility. He stated that initiatives like daycare cancer centers and a robust digital healthcare infrastructure aim to bring quality medical services to the most remote areas.

“This year, we are adding 10,000 new medical seats, with a goal of reaching 75,000 additional seats over the next five years. Extending telemedicine to all PHCs and establishing daycare cancer centers will have a significant impact, ensuring better healthcare access for everyone,” he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted that these developments would generate numerous job opportunities for young professionals. He urged swift implementation of these initiatives to ensure the benefits of the budget reach the widest possible audience.

Additionally, PM Modi noted that India is now the third-largest startup ecosystem globally. He emphasized that the budget includes several initiatives to support startups, including a ₹1 lakh crore corpus fund dedicated to fostering research and innovation. He pointed out that investments in emerging sectors would be further strengthened through the Deep Tech Funds of Funds, encouraging greater technological advancements and economic growth.
