Punjab is set to become the first state in India to introduce a ‘Patient Facilitation Centre’ at Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, with the facility expected to be operational by May. The announcement was made by State Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh during his inspection of the ongoing construction at the hospital, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to offering top-tier healthcare services.

Dr. Singh highlighted that the centre will provide comprehensive assistance to patients and their families, including support for availing the state’s Rs 10 lakh health insurance scheme, which currently benefits over 30 million people across 6.5 million families. Strategically located near the emergency ward, the centre will employ trained personnel to help guide patients efficiently to various departments, easing congestion and improving overall hospital management.

The facility will also offer various amenities such as air-conditioned waiting lounges, clean restrooms, drinking water, a canteen, and access to essential medicines. Developed in collaboration with Kings XI Punjab, this pilot initiative is expected to improve healthcare delivery significantly. Plans are in place to replicate such centres in other district hospitals, medical colleges, and sub-divisional hospitals throughout the state. Operating around the clock, the centre aims to ensure consistent, high-quality, and patient-friendly care.
