During a hearing, the Allahabad High Court instructed the Uttar Pradesh government to take action against government doctors engaged in private practice. The court directed the principal secretary of medical education to submit a personal affidavit detailing the current status of the matter.

Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal scheduled the next hearing for March 26 and noted that the principal secretary had previously mentioned disciplinary proceedings against such doctors. However, the latest affidavit lacked details on the progress of these actions.

Reports from 37 district magistrates, submitted on February 19 and 24, are currently under review. The additional advocate general requested time to present the state’s response.

The court emphasized the urgency of concluding disciplinary proceedings swiftly to discourage government-employed doctors, particularly those in medical colleges and district hospitals, from engaging in private practice. It reiterated its previous order from January 8, urging the state to formulate a policy to prevent such practices.
