The Telangana government is taking steps to transform public hospitals, aiming to make them as appealing and efficient as private hospitals. Many people believe they won’t receive adequate care or clear informationin government facilities. To change this perception, a comprehensive new policy is being drafted.

Key improvements under this initiative include revamping hospitals with bright colors and a clean, welcoming appearance similar to private hospitals. Dedicated reception and helpdesk counters will be introduced, staffed with uniformed personnel to assist and guide patients. Pediatric wards will be decorated with playful artwork and stocked with toys to create a child-friendly environment. Additionally, lighting and hygiene standards in hospitals will be significantly improved.

Apart from the cosmetic overhauling, the policy also aims at enhancing geriatric care for senior citizens, strengthening specialized services such as trauma care, oncology (cancer care), and palliative care, expanding chronic disease management through the establishment of NCD (Non-Communicable Disease) clinics in all districts, and integrating artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and service delivery in hospitals.

To fund these upgrades, the state plans to secure a ₹4,150 crore loan from the World Bank. Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha is leading this initiative to rebrand and upgrade public hospitals across Telangana.
