Uttar Pradesh has witnessed an unprecedented expansion in medical education and healthcare infrastructure, solidifying its position as a model of excellence in the health sector. As the Chief Minister takes the initiative, significant advancements in medical colleges, MBBS and PG seats, super-speciality hospitals, and research institutes have created new opportunities for thousands of aspiring healthcare professionals.
The accessibility of medical education has improved with the establishment of medical colleges in Maharajganj , Shamli, and Sambhal under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Currently, the state offers 5,250 MBBS seats in government institutions and 6,550 in the private sector. Additionally, three new medical colleges under the PPP model have contributed 350 more MBBS seats.
Similarly, the number of MD/MS/Diploma seats in government institutions has increased from 900 to 1,871, while the private sector now provides 2,100 PG seats. Furthermore, 250 seats have been added in super-speciality courses, enhancing higher medical education opportunities. Strengthening alternative medicine, an Ayurvedic College has been established in Ayodhya, and a government homeopathic medical college in Varanasi.
The state currently has 2,110 Ayurvedic, 254 Unani, and 1,585 Homeopathic hospitals, along with eight Ayurvedic, two Unani, and nine homeopathic colleges with affiliated hospitals. To further advance cancer diagnostics and treatment, the Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute in Lucknow now houses a Centre for Advanced Molecular Diagnostics and Research for Cancer.In a significant step towards medical research and innovation, IIT-Kanpur is developing a School of Medical Research and Technology alongside a 500-bed super-speciality hospital, aiming to integrate cutting-edge advancements in healthcare.
Additionally, efforts in nursing and paramedical education have gained momentum, with construction work underway for 25 out of the 27 approved nursing colleges. The number of nursing seats has been increased by 7,000, while paramedical seats have risen by 2,000, further strengthening the healthcare workforce in the state. These remarkable advancements underscore Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to expanding medical education, research, and healthcare infrastructure, making quality healthcare more accessible to all.
